Daily Bible reading is a wonderful habit. Here are reasons why you should make it a priority in your life.
It Helps You Grow in Your Faith
We have discussed before about growing in faith. Going to church is one way to grow in faith, and another way is daily Bible reading. “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ,” Romans 10:17. To grow anything, you need to nourish it well and give it time. And it’s the same with faith. To grow faith, you need to nourish it with God’s Word. It won’t grow your faith overnight. But if you add this into your daily routine, it will begin to change things. It may be an ordinary routine, but ordinary routines can change your life.
At the end of the day, your faith is vital and precious. So, it’s worthy of every investment of time and energy!
It Helps You Learn
Reading has the power to teach, expanding our world through knowledge. When we open and read through the pages of God’s Word, we connect ourselves to the ultimate source of knowledge and wisdom.
Daily Bible reading doesn’t just help us learn in a general sense, it can also provide a new opportunity to learn something about our creator and savior every day. If you aren’t reading the Bible every day, you’re missing opportunities to learn and expand your knowledge!
It Provides Mental Stimulation
Reading teaches, and it also strengthens your brain. The act of reading engages different parts of the mind. Why is this so important? Because reading has long been linked to brain health. Even a few minutes of reading as a daily habit has been known to have benefits for productivity, attention, and stress. So, when you read the Bible daily, you can help to sharpen your mind and provide peace of mind when needed. How incredible is that?
It Changes You
A hallmark of good literature is its ability to stir its readers’ hearts to action. And the Bible is truly the perfect example of having the power to stir hearts to action! It is a powerful book that has changed the lives of billions of people from generation to generation and will continue to do so. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart,” Hebrews 4:12.
It Gives Joy
Life without joy…well, what’s the point? Material possessions and wealth can bring joy, but it’s usually short-lived. The Bible? It’s not going anywhere. That’s why reading the Bible is so great. The Bible is here to stay and is a wonderful source of joy! It answers all of our lives’ why. It encourages us when we are down. It satisfies our souls with an abundance of love, joy, and peace. It will also continue to provide and sustain this joy throughout our lives, without fail.
What if I Can’t Read the Bible Every Day?
Life can get so busy and hectic, you may not feel like you have time to sit down and read the Bible every day.
But here’s the thing. We get to choose our priorities. When you don’t have time for something, it simply means something else is your priority. And you don’t need to get down on yourself about this – it just means you need to put in a little work if you want to make daily Bible reading a priority. You get to decide whether reading the Bible is your priority or something else is.
And remember – reading your bible every day doesn’t have to take a long time. Set aside 15 minutes to sit down and be fully present while you read.
