Whether you’ve been a Christian for many years or just recently received Jesus, it’s important to know how to grow in Christ. If you’re longing for growth, here are four ways to help you!
Love Him
Loving God is the first step to take in order to grow in Christ. Our culture uses the word “love” very casually. It can be easy to say “I love your dress!” or “I love this song!”, but it can be harder to identify the love Jesus spoke about in the Bible. So, what does this love look like?
Like with any relationship, love means setting aside time and telling Him you love Him. Take time to talk with God and get to know Him through the Bible. Let God know you love him with all of you! When we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, we show the world we belong to Jesus.
Grow in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus
To grow in Christ, one must spend time growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus. Growing in grace means growing in your understanding that you are accepted by God, not on your performance as a Christian, but the basis of Christ alone. God loves you not because of what you do, but because of what Jesus has done already. Growing in grace also means learning to live in God’s grace so that God’s grace motivates and sustains us day after day.
We also must grow our knowledge of Jesus. Of course, part of that knowledge is learning about Christ from the Bible. But we also need to grow in our own personal knowledge of Jesus as we walk with Him, spend time in prayer, and in our lives through the choices and decisions we make.
Trust Him
Sometimes, it can be easier said than done to put your complete trust in Him. But growing in Christ means trusting in Him fully. “Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Any worry and stress can be thrown on God because he cares for you. There is nothing we may go through that we cannot cast on Him, so we should make it our first resort to trust Him and not our last.
Build Friendships and Be a Member of Church
To help you grow more in Christ, it’s important to get plugged into a local church and build friendships. We are not meant to go it alone as Christians. It is in the church that we love and serve each other and present a witness to the watching world. You cannot grow as a Christian in isolation. We need each other’s encouragement and prayers in order to grow!
